Julia Lomas, a PhD candidate in art history at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, is the one millionth student to use the Caulfield Library this year. On a bright spring day, Julia gives us her impressions of the Library, photographing some of her favourite study spaces and architectural details. She captures the ways the building frames exterior spaces—a dialogue between study, students and the university. John Wardle Architects’ 2017 refurbishment of the Caulfield Library opened the building up to new light and new space. Glass refracts the geometry of the Library fittings. The spiral staircase references the original 1972 building, and we see the imprint of the wooden formwork on the concrete form.
